Abstract

Sannan-Dishuiquan sag in Junggar basin has been occurred in continental depressed and sedimentary status in Carboniferous period. The seismic geologic interpretation shows that upper volcanics sequence, sedimentary rock and lower volcanics sequence are developed in Upper Carboniferous in this area. And good source rock developed in the sedimentary rock constitutes the major gas source rocks of Upper Carboniferous gas reservoir in this area together with Dishuiquan source rock of Lower Carboniferous. This paper presents the studies of the Carboniferous occurrence,source-reservoir-cap rock conditions of gas reservoir, resource amount assessment and petroleum accumulation model. It is indicated that the upper and lower sequences of volcanic rocks in the studied area are all good oilgas reservoirs. The Carboniferous volcanic rocks in Sannan-Dishuiquan sag and its adjacent areas are of good prospects for petroleum exploration, with massive gas resources, being as favorable targets for gas exploration in Junggar basin.
