Abstract

Ceramic is a feasible dielectric material to make high energy density capacitors with heavy current and long lifetime due to its very high dielectric constant and negligible aging phenomenon. This paper develops several kinds of multiplayer capacitors (MLC) samples made of class two materials, and carries out test in pulsed discharge circuit with heavy current. After 10 7 charging and discharging, the capacitances of these samples keep the initial values or increase slightly less than 5%, and the dielectric loss increase less than 0.5%. Without the consideration of the accumulation of heat, the charge frequencies from 1 Hz to 1 000 Hz have no influence the characteristics of samples. This paper also interprets in detail the special discharge wave of capacitors resulted from the ferroelectricity of BaTiO 3. A brief description of the failure factors and mechanism of MLC has also been presented. The little change of electrical characteristics of these capacitors after 10 7 shots indicates that the MLC that accord with X7R temperature curve fits for manufacturing high rated voltage, large capacitance and high energy density capacitors.
