Abstract
The 3-ethyl steranes (C29-C31), 3-n-propyl steranes (C30-C32) and 3-butyl steranes (C31-C33) were identified in the clayey dolomite formation of Biyang Depression.Lano steranes (C30-C32) and abundant regular steranes (C27-C29) and 4-methyl steranes (mainly dinostane) were found in the same samples. This is a rare case that so many kinds of steranes occur together. It was also recognized that these non-ordinary steranes varies in Pr/Ph ratio and gammacerane content, and are controlled by the water salinity and oxidation/reduction condition of depositional environment. The hopane/sterane ratio has no relationship to their relative content.There is no evidence that the 3-alkylated steranes are of biological origin.
