Abstract

Through the establishment of ecological footprint model of water resources and water resources carrying capacity model,we calculated the ecological footprint and the ecological carrying capacity of water resources in Yinchuan City in the year of 2008 by means of the theory and method of ecological footprint. The results shows that ecological footprint per capita in Yinchuan in 2008 is 1.450hm2,the water resources ecological carrying capacity per capita is 0.318hm2 and the water ecological footprint per capita is almost 5 times of the ecological carrying capacity per capita, and the ecological deficit of water resources is 1.132 hm2.Agricultural water resources accounted for the largest ecological footprint, which indicates a structural contradiction in regional water supply. At the same time, the total ecological carrying capacity is composed of water from Yellow River. Some recommendations for the sustainable use of water resources, decreasing ecological footprint per capita and increasing water resources carrying capacity in Yinchuan City were put forward.
