Investigation of bone mineral density and the incidence of osteoporosis in different age groups in the Manchus in Dandong

Objective To investigate the changes of bone mineral density(BMD) and the incidence of osteoporosis(OP) in different age groups in the Manchus in Dandong.Methods The BMD at the distal of Radius and ulna of nondominant arm were determined by DTX-200 BMD detector made by American Osteometer Medi Tech Corporation.732 objects(350 females,382 males) were divided into different groups on the basis of 10-year-old.The datas were analyzed by spss11.5.Results The peak BMD in the Manchus in Dandong appeared in the 30—39 age group in men and 40—49 age group in women.A remarkable decrease in BMD was shown after 50 years old in both men and women.Incidence of osteoporosis in women was higher than that in men after 70 years.For male,there were significant positive correlation between the BMD and age and long term vegetarian.There were significant inverse correlation between the BMD and weight and milk consumption.For female,there were significant positive correlation between the BMD and age.Conclusion This study provides references for the diagnosis and therapy osteoporosis in dandong region.
