Progress and Prospect of the Research on Urbanization in China since 1980

After reviewing research progress on urbanization basis theories, urbanization and spatial development, urbanization and social and economic development, the authors lay emphasis on prospect of the future research from seven aspects as follows; construction of urbanization academic and methodological systems, measurement of the urbanization level, urbanization developmental measures stressing on regional differences, urban social spatial structure, research on demonstrations and advantages and disadvantages of suburbanization, society transformation in fast urbanizing area and interaction between urbanization process and global environment change (GEC).
