Abstract

Objective To observe the effectiveness of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Methods VATS and minithoracotomy were compared in treating spontaneous pneumothorax in terms of the time of leaving bed,the total drainage after operation, the time of thoracic closed drainage, the length of incision, the dosage of morphine, and the operation time. The rate of correct diagnosis, the rate of effectiveness and the changes of KPS grade were compared between VATS and minithoracotomy in treating spontaneous pneumothorax. Results VATS had a shorter bed constraint time(P0.01),less total drainage after operation(P0.01),less time of thoracic closed drainage(P0.01),shorter incision length(P0.01),less pain and less dosage of morphine after operation(P0.01)compared with those of minithoracotomy, but there was no significance between the time needed for two operations(P=0.6875).VATS was more accurate in pleural effusion diagnose than thoracic puncture(P0.05).And VATS was also more effective in treating malignant thoracic effusion than thoracic puncture and anti-carcinoma drug injection(P0.05).Conclusion VATS operationshad the superiorities of less bleeding, less trauma, and less pain, and it could be widely used in thoracic operations.
