Abstract

Signalized intersections are the traffic noise black-spots usually distributed in urban areas, where traffic noise pollution is often serious, and therefore,a theoretical model to forecast the traffic noise is needed. Basically, controlled by traffic lights, the traffic flow can be divided into two kinds,i.e. the constant-flow and the interrupted traffic flow which stops waiting at stop-line for green light. Then the two kinds of traffic flow are divided into large, medium and small-size traffic flows. By calculating the equivalent traffic noise of different types of traffic flow under different vehicle moving status, the forecasting model for total traffic noise is obtained. Thereafter, with the example of one signalized intersection in Guangzhou, the forecasted traffic noise based on the model is compared with the measured traffic noise. As a result, the model proves to be accurate and applicable.
