On the equivalence theory of translation

This thesis is designated to summarize the rules of evolution of the equivalence theory of translation through probing its origin and development. Then, this thesis outlines the influence of modern equivalence theory of translation upon the Chinese translation theory. It concludes that the introduction of Western equivalence theory of translation is beneficial to the development of Chinese translation theory. But only when it is combined with the specific Chinese language and culture, does the equivalence theory of translation have any practical value.
