Summary of the Impacts of Freeway Traffic Incidents and Their Countermeasures

The frequency occurrence of freeway traffic incidents have significant effects on the stable operation of freeway.Through the analysis on the impacts of freeway traffic incidents,this paper presents the impacts of traffic incidents on freeway capacity,vehicle delay,traffic congestion and public safety.In view of the impacts,a freeway incident management system is proposed to reduce the impacts of traffic incidents.By expounding the phases of incident management system and the architecture,it provides basis for setting up the well-considered freeway incident management system.
