A Brief Discussion on the Translation of Animal Words with Cultural Connotation

In Chinese and English, the words about animals usually have the overlapping meaning, that is, the semantic correspondence between Chinese words and English words. However, the same animal may have different cultural meanings and associations because of the different cultural and social backgrounds. This leads to the difference in cultural connotation or the contradictory cultural association in spite of their similar conceptual meanings or denotative meanings. Therefore, in the course of CE and EC translation, it is necessary to pay attention to the words' denotative meaning and different cultural meanings for the purpose of correctly translating the animal words with cultural connotations.
