Abstract

Objective This study was conducted to explore effects of selenium and cadmium acted jointly on rat hepatocellular DNA damage at relative low doses in vitro.Methods At the dose of 2^185,4^375 and 8^750 μmol/L,sodium selenite acted jointly with cadmium chloride.Rat hepatocellular DNA damage was measured with single cell gel electrophoresis.Results Sodium selenite at dose of 2^185 μmol/L could not inhibit DNA damage caused by cadmium chloride at the dose of 2^185 μmol/L in rat liver cells significantly.Sodium selenite at the dose of 4.375 μmol/L had antagonistic effect on DNA damage induced by cadmium chloride at the same dose obviously.At the dose of 8^750 μmol/L,sodium selenite and cadmium chloride could antagonize each other significantly.Conclusion Although selenium could not inhibit DNA damage induced by cadmium at relative low doses,selenium and cadmium could antagonize each other at certain doses on DNA damage in rat liver cells.
