Abstract
Hypericin is a major bioactive constituent of Hypericum perforatum L.. Its chemical and biological synthesis pathways are provided. Progresses in the study of hypericin accumulation in plant individual development and microcultures of H. perforatum are also reviewed. Further studies of hypericin can be performed using molecular markers and electronic microscopy.
