Abstract
In-situ Mg2Si/Al composite was fabricated by mechanical stirring casting. The reinforced phase morphology, size and distribution of the composite was observed by SEM. The composition was analyzed by XRD, and the microhardness, wear resistance and damping of the composite was studied. The results show that Mg2Si/Al in-situ composite is successfully fabricated by mechanical stirring casting. The reinforcement is white dendritic, small particles, which distributes in the matrix uniformly. The clean interface between reinforcement and matrix has good interfacial bonding. The microhardness, wear resistance and damping of the composite is significantly improved. The microhardness of the Mg2Si content of 10% increases by 1.71 times than pure aluminum, the wear resistance increases by 2.42 times and damping increases by 9.85 times.
