Abstract

A DPPHMicroplate assay were made to determine the free radical scavenging activity of the leaves of some shade trees. The results revealed that different species have very different free radical scavenging capacities, and as the raising of concentration and the prolonging of incubation time at 37 ℃, their free radical scavenging capacities increased.Of all trees,Punica granatum L.,Acer buergerianum Miq.,Liquidambar formosana Hance,Lagerstroemia indica L.,Sapium sebiferum (L.) Roxb.,Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm.and Podocarpus macrophyllus (Thunb.)D.Don have the strongest free radical scavenging capacity. At the concentration of 05 mg/mL and after incubated for 20 minutes they could reach a DPPH decreasing rate of 935%, 864%, 857%, 772%, 638%, 620% and 611%,respectively.
