Abstract

Poly(vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite nanocomposites films were prepared by means of water solution casting method with Na-montmorillonite(Na-MMT),organic montmorillonite(OMMT) and Poly(vinyl alcohol). Then the films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),and thermogravimetic analysis(TGA).The results revealed that particles of Na-MMT and OMMT were well dispersed in PVA matrix. The interlayer space of MMT was larger in the PVA/OMMT nanocomposite films due to the effects of organic modification. But fewer PVA chains intercalated into the OMMT interlayer for the poor compatibilities between PVA molecules and organic modifiers. Therefore, when comparing with pure PVA films,PVA/OMMT nanocomposite films showed little change in thermal stabilities.
