Abstract

Objective Cytotoxicity study of the residual amount of acrylamide monomer in different concentrations in polyacrylamide hydrogel. Methods After adding acrylamide monomer solution in different concentrations into cell culture solution, we can appraise the potential cytotoxicity by observing the effect of the cell growth and proliferation. Results There is no toxicity when the concentration of acrylamide monomer is below 1.00×10 -8 g/ml; Slight toxicity can be observed when the concentration ranges from 1.00×10 -7 g/ml to 2.50×10 -4 g/ml; There is evident and strong cytotoxicity when the concentration is above 8.33×10 -4 g/ml. Conclusion It will be the best and fairly safe to controlled the residual amount of acrylamide monomer in the polyacrylamide hydrogel below 1.00×10 -7 g/ml.
