Abstract
This paper reported a laboratory study on the comparison of lifetime, death rate, egg laying amount and egg laying period of bisexual reproduction and parthenogenesis. The results showed that mean lifetime of the parthenogenesis females was significantly longer than that of bisexual reproduction females(t-test,P0.05),and the peak of death of the parthenogenesis females was later than that of bisexual reproduction. Most importance was that parthenogenesis female lays 1.14 pods per individual, significantly less than that of bisexual female, laying 2.96(t-test,P0.01).There were periodically several peaks of reproduction of both types of reproduction, and each peak of bisexual reproduction was higher than that of parthenogenesis, though the whole duration length of parthenogenesis was longer than that of bisexual reproduction.Parthenogenesis had stronger viability but lower egg production capacity. The results were helpful for understanding of the oriental migratory locust reproduction features and its population dynamics.
