Abstract

The study selected the typical drought- tolerant maize genetype (90- 21- 3 and 8701) and sensitive maize gene- types (Dan937 and Zong- 3), using outdoor potted plants as test materials, the growth, physiological characteristics and direction of root were researched. The results showed that the total root number, root length, root surface area and root- shoot ratio in- creased under drought stress, but the root volume, root dry weight and root uptake water capacity decreased, the water use efficiency of drought- tolerant maize genetypes increased, the sensitive maize genetypes were contrary. The root of the drought- resistant maize genetypes is affected by drought slightly.
