Abstract

The relativistic effects(the relativistic contraction, the spin-orbit splitting, the relativistic self-consistent expansion)and the influence of which on chemical properties of elements, specially on heavy elements, are explained. Relativistic quantum mechanical calculations have been made for atoms and for a few molecules,it shows that the trends of anomalous departure from per- iodic table for heavy atoms are attributed to relativistic effects, since these relativistic effects increase very rapidly with the increase of atomic number.
