Abstract

Objective To study the nutritional status of different water iodine in Tianjin City, evaluate the efficiency of the prevention measures, and provide the basis for scientific iodine. Methods Probability proportion to size(PPS)sampling method was used to investigate urine iodine, goiter rate and iodine content of salt of children aged from 8 to 10 years in Tianjin City.Urinary iodine levels of pregnant and lactating women and the iodine content in water of the city were surveyed. Results In un-high iodine areas, the goiter rate of children aged from 8 to 10 years was 2.14%,and there was no significant difference in age and sex.The qualified iodized salt coverage rate was 91.6%,and there was no significant difference compared with that in 2005.The median of urinary iodine of children, pregnant women, lactating women were 177.9 μg/L,145.3 μg/L and 139.9 μg/L,respectively.Centralized water supply water iodine content was 0 to 10 μg/L.In high iodine water areas, the median of urinary iodine of children aged from 8 to 10 years was 338.3 μg/L.Conclusions The median of urinary iodine of pregnant women is slightly below the appropriate level. In high water iodine area, the median of urinary iodine of children was excess.Health education and daily monitoring should be strengthened. The correlation of salt iodine and urine iodine need to be further studied.
