Abstract

As one of the distinguished scholars during Ming and Qing dynasties in north China, Yan Yuan strongly opposed Buddhism and Taoism, and criticized Cheng-Zhu neo-Confucianism and Buddhism. He put forward the theory system of utilitarianism with the concept of Confucian orthodoxy.
