A Study on the Image of Supreme God in Ancient China

Abstract

There was a supreme god in ancient society of China.Its name was unknown at preliterate time.Then Di was the name in Shang Dynasty;Tian in Western Zhou Dynasty;Taiyi or Dijun were alternatively used in Eastern Zhou Dynast;and Taiyi was the popular name during the Western and Eastern Dynasties.Crouching pose,in regulating Yin and Yang,was generally the image,which appeared during Liangzhu Culture about 5300-4000 years ago,spanning from Shang Dynasty,Zhou Dynasty to the Western and Eastern Dynasties.The evolution process was clearly marked,which is actually the reflection of the changing mind and the changing world outlook of the earliest Chinese people in different historic period of time.
