Abstract
This article selects ten main indicators of economic development in western China in 2008 as the research objects.It firstly calculates the data through the method of factor analysis by software SPSS.Then it makes comprehensive appraisal on economic development of the 12 western cities according to the result of factor analysis and gets the general rank of the 12 cities,which results in Chongqing,Chengdu and Xian ranking the first three.Finally,it carries through cluster analysis on factor scores which can be divided into three categories.The conclusions of cluster analysis and factor analysis are basically the same,which reflect the comprehensive economic power of the 12 cities and provide theoretic foundation for the future economic development of the 12 western cities in China.
