On the Three Levels of Aesthetic Discourse in Contemporary China

Abstract

There are mainly three levels of aesthetic discourse in contemporary China. Ontologically speaking, it emphasizes art's aesthetic nature, and focuses on its aesthetic independence and purity. Functionally speaking, it emphasizes the function of aesthetic salvation and regards aesthetic activity as a life attitude. From the angle of Value, it advocates highly sensibility, freedom and aesthetic ideal.
