Jian Zhai Short Stories is an influential classical Chinese collection of anecdotes and short stories.The works adopts simple, natural, direct and elegant writing styles and retains a number of anecdotes and stories about the Cabinet in early period of Ming dynasty, reflecting the intrigues of the supreme ruler and dissolute elite class, exposing official corruption, the imperial fraud and other social issues, discussing the evolution of the laws and institutions of the Ming Dynasty. The novel collection put forward some insightful political and history commentary as well, which is a true record of socio-political and cultural conditions in the early and mid Ming Dynasty.
