Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP)levels and extent of ischemia in patients with unstable angina pectoris and normal left ventricular function, and the response to percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods One hundred and three patients with unstable angina pectoris and normal left ventricular function(identified by echocardiography)underwent PCI were divided into three groups according to the results of coronary angiography:one vessel pathological change group(n=23),two vessels group(n=43),and three vessels group(n=37).The BNP levels were detected at baseline,3 days and 90 days after PCI.Results There were significant differences in the BNP levels before PCI among the three groups(P0.05);3d after PCI the BNP levels were significantly increased,as compared with those before PCI P0.05),however,30d after PCI the BNP levels were significantly decreased,as compared with those before PCI(P0.05).Conclusion The increase of BNP levels is closely related with vessel number of pathological change in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD),which can be used as an important index in CHD.
