Abstract

Anionic polymerizable urethane acrylate emulsifier APUA was synthesized and applied to emulsion polymerization of MMA. Polymerization stability and polymerization kinetic were studied at different initiators and emulsifier concentrations. And SDS was used in comparative studies. It was found that both water soluble initiator K 2S 2O 8 and oil soluble initiator AIBN can start the reaction of MMA, polymerization rate and yield were very high. When AIBN was used, the conversion time behavior differed for the two surfactants, it showed different nucleation mechanism, and polymerization stability was good when the amount of AUPA was proper. When K 2S 2O 8 was used, the conversion time behavior was similar.
