Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical distribution and drug resistance of hospital extended spectrum β-lactamase(ESBLs) producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Methods Clinical 401 isolates of Escherichia coli and 319 isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in our hospital from January 2007 to January 2010 were collected and performed the antimicrobial susceptibility test by disk diffusion method(K-B method),ESBLs screening and confirmatory test. The clinical distribution and drug resistance were statistically analyzed. Results Among 720 strains of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria, the positive rate of ESBLs-producing was 37.9%;in which positive rate of ESBLs-producing E.coli was 42.1%,that of ESBLs-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae was 32.6%.ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were highly resistant to the third generation cephalosporins and monocyclic β-lactam antibiotics, and to aminoglycosides, quinolones, sulfonamides, but susceptible to imipenem. Conclusion The detection rate of ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae was high and showed multiple drug resistance, these ESBLs-producing strains were distributed in the various samples in different wards.Clinic should grasp their clinical distribution and drug resistance characteristics in time, use antibiotics rationally to control the transmission and prevalence of ESBLs-producing strains.
