Abstract

To investigate the protective abilities of Ginkgo biloba extraction(EGb) on neurocyte of ovariectomized rats, the expression level of Bcl-2 and Bax genes in cerebral cortexes of the pseudo-operated rats(Group C),the ovariectomized rats(Group OVX) and the ovariectomized rats treated with EGb(Group OVX+EGb) were detected by immunohistochemical assay. As a result, the expression level of Bcl-2 of the ovariectomized rats decreased significantly(P0.01),whereas the expression level of Bax of the ovariectomied rats increased significantly(P0.01),compared with those of the pseudo-operated rats. The expression level of Bcl-2 of the rats treated with EGb increased significantly(P0.01),but the expression level of Bax decreased significantly(P0.01).These results showed that deficiency of estrogen in the ovariectomized rats lead to changes of the expression amounts of Bcl-2 and Bax in the cerebral cortex, and EGb was able to protect effectively neurocyte cell through increasing the expression level of Bcl-2 and inhibiting the expression level of Bax.
