Abstract

Objectives To study the diagnosis and treatment of Fournier gangrene. Methods 5 cases of Fournier gangrene were presented and the literature was reviewed. Results All the 5 were treated by debridement, drainage and systematic antibiotics.3 of the patients recovered with no recurrence in a year whereas the other 2 died of the disease. Conclusions Fournier's gangrene,a form of necrotizing fasciitis,is an uncommon, fulminant and rapidly progressing subcutaneous infection of the scrotum and penis.Timely diagnosis and prompt adequate treatment including debridement, drainage and systematic antibiotics were essential in order to reduce the death rate and complications.
