Epidemiology of syphilis in Changge,Henan,2006-2011

Objective To understand the epidemiology of syphilis in Changge,Henen province,from 2006 to 2011 and explore appropriate prevention and control measures.Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of syphilis in Changge during this period.Results A total of 285 cases of syphilis were reported through national disease reporting information system with the incidence ranging from 1.51/lakh to 12.23/lakh.The incidence increased year by year and the seasonality of the disease was not obvious.The cases in age group 20-49 years accounted for 70.18%.The incidence in females was higher than that in males(P0.05).The majority of the cases were farmers(56.84%).The area specific incidence showed no significant difference.Conclusion The incidence of syphilis is in upward trend in Changge,suggesting the necessity to strengthen the screening of syphilis,early detection of infection source,control iatrogenic infection,conduct health education and people's self protection to prevent and control syphilis.
