Abstract
Objective To study the differential significance of C reactive protein(CRP) and procalcitonin(PCT) on ICU patients with infection and to evaluate their prognosis effect on sepsis patients.Methods 102 patients were divided into septic and non-septic group,and their CRP,PCT level and acute physiology and chronic health conditions(APACHE) Ⅱ score difference were compared between the two groups at admission.Besides,the differences of CRP and PCT level among the deceased and the survival in the septic group were compared at the first and seventh days.Results The CRP and PCT levels of the septic group were higher than those of the non-septic group at admission(P=0.001),but the scores of APACHE Ⅱ had no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The CRP and PCT levels of the deceased in the septic group showed no significant differences at the first and seventh days(P0.05),while the CRP and PCT levels of the survival in the septic group decreased obviously from the first day to the seventh day(P=0.001).Conclusion The CRP and PCT levels can identify whether the patients in ICU have other infections or not.Therefore,dynamic monitoring of CRP and PCT levels has an important clinical significance on the prognosis of patients with sepsis,and the persistent high levels of CRP and PCT indicate an unfavorable prognosis.
