Abstract
In order to analyze the total economic loss from flood disaster during 1996 to 1999 in Hunan Province and its composition and influence factors,10,722 families suffering the disaster are investigated with cross-sectional study. We found that the economic loss caused by the flood is related to the degree, type and period of the flood, and the economic level of the family before flood. The more severe the flood is,or the longer the flood lasts,or the higher the economic level before flood is,the more economic loss will occur.Flash flood areas had the lowest economic loss;the collapsed flood area had the highest economic loss. Therefore,we should give emphasis on the preventing the dike collapse, shortening the flooding period, and pay more attention to protection of the developed area in anti-flood.
