Abstract

Objective To summarize the clinical experience in treatment of fulminant hepatic failure and hepatic encephalopathy with orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Methods The clinical data of 4 patients with fulminant hepatic failure and hepatic encephalopathy treated with OLT were retrospectively analyzed. Results The survival rate of the patients was 75% at 1 month and 50% over 3 months. Conclusions OLT is an effective means for treating fulminant hepatic failure and hepatic encephalopathy.
