Abstract
In an acetic acid-sodium acetate buffer solution of pH 5.3,copper(II) reacts with tribromoarsenazo to form a violet-red complex. The maximum absorption wavelength of the complex locates at 614 nm and the apparent molar absorptivity is 1.16×10~4 L·mol~(-1)·cm~(-1) at this wavelength. The composition of the complex is Cu(II):R = 1∶2.Beer's law is followed in the range of 0.40 μg·mL~(-1)~ 3.60 μg·mL~(-1) for copper. The method was satisfactorily applied to determine the trace amount of copper in the biological samples, including chicken liver, potato and young garlic shoots.
