Abstract

The influence of carbon black particle size on the combustion characteristics and the quenched surface of the composite modified double-base(CMDB) propellant was investigated by the burning rate test, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS).The results show that compounding the carbon black with the lead salt and copper salt catalysts can significantly increase the burning rate of CMDB propellant, and decreases the pressure exponent. The smaller the particle size, the more remarkable the effects. It may be related to the prevention action of the carbon black for the agglomeration of lead salts and copper salts.
