Abstract
Yi Deokmu, as a learned Korean writer who was an expert in Chinese poetry theories, had a good command of literary appraisal to compare the characteristics of the poetic styles, poetic structures and rhetorical devices of Chinese poetries, Korean poetries and Japanese poetries and to discriminate the good and the bad. His ways of making literary appraisal could be divided into following three groups: criticism of poetic rhetorical devices, criticism of poetic styles and criticism of poetry comparison.
