Abstract
Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and development trend of syphilis in Futian District of Shenzhen City, and to provide a scientific basis for instituting and adjusting the strategy of syphilis control. Methods Surveillance data about syphilis epidemic situation in Futian District from 2007 to 2011 were statistically analyzed. Results A total of 5,542 cases of syphilis were reported in Futian District from 2007 to 2011,and the incidence rate of syphilis was 88.84/100,000,with an average annual growth rate of 1.93%.The average annual growth rate of latent syphilis was 9.66%,while the yearly descending rate of other syphilis(including stage I,stage II and stage III syphilis and congenital syphilis) was 7.87%.No statistically significant difference was found in the total incidence rate of syphilis between men and women(P=0.72).The female incidence rate of latent syphilis was higher than that in the males(P0.001),while the female incidence rate of other syphilis was lower than that in the males(P0.001). Conclusions In recent years, the incidence of syphilis is at a high level in Futian District. In order to control the development of syphilis epidemic,it is necessary to enhance health education and behavioral interventions, improve the awareness of syphilis screening among the population, and establish the prevention and control mode that centralized control of syphilis patients interacts with follow-up.
