Abstract

To identify the anther development of three types of Brassica napus L.CMS male sterility lines abortion time and characteristics of cytology and to compare their pollen vitality and the ratio of fine pollen,CMS male sterility lines 301A,212A and Shan 3A,with Zhongshuang 2 as the control, their anther abortion time were studied by the means of normal paraffin section method. Results showed that.male sterility lines 301A,212A and Shan 3A anther development was inhibited at the time of archesporial cell stage. On the period of sporogenous cell stage, powder chamber could not be formed, therefore, they were classified as pollen sterility.Their pollen vitality were 81.7%,95.6%,100% respectively, and the ratio of their fine pollen were 42.8%,42.8%,14.3% respectively. These three male sterility lines shared the same anther abortion time and similar sterility characteristics. The lines with the lowest pollen vitality and the lowest ratio of fine pollen were 301A and Shan 3A respectively.
