In the Chin and Han Dynasty,the site of Datong city was set up.By authentic recordation,it has been 2,200 years.The name of the city was changed several times.Distributions and scales of the city sometimes were increased sometimes decreased on the basis of the demand of politics and military affairs,however,its location has been changed not much.In Existent Official Zone and the North Drill Ground Zone of the Ming Dynasty,most of the ancient city walls built in different dynasties leaned and crushed together.The later city walls leans against the earlier ones.All the walls disposed inner and outer.The process,in which the walls came into being,truly recorded the vicissitude of the ancient Datong City,that is,it once was the county of the Qin Dynasty,the capital of Northern Wei Dynasty,the capital of Liao and Jin Dynasty,the military town of Sui-Tang Dynasty,the town of military importance of Qing Dynasty.
