Abstract

Objective Observing the Effects of patients control epidural analgesia(PCEA) on secretion of prolactin and uterus systole after cesarean setion. Methods One hundred and ten parturients at term undergoing selective cesarean section under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia were equally and randomly allocated to analgesia group which receive postoperative epidural analgesia for 48 hours (n=55) and controlled group which receive postoperative dolantin muscle injecting(n=55). The plasma prolactin level was determined with radioimmunoassay. The analgesic efficacy was evaluated with visual analog scale(VAS). Observing the hight of uterus, bleeding of vagina; recording the time of lactation starting and anus bubbling. Results In both groups, prolatin levels were significantly increased after operations(P0.01). The increase rate was greater, however, in the analgesia group(P0.05). The VAS score was significantly lower in analgesia group than that in control group. Lactation started earlier in analgesia group than that in control group(P0.05). In both groups, the hight of uterus and the time of anus bubblingwere no significantly difference. The bleeding of vagina was significantly less in the analgesia group than the control group(P0.05). Conclusions Patients controlled epidural analgesia after cesarean section produced a satisfactory postoperative pain relief. An increase prolactin of secretion, improvement of maternal colostum, no effects on uterus systole and intestines resumed its motor function.
