Abstract
Objective To study the method of human olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) purified in vitro from olfactory mucosa. Methods OECs were acquired by dissection of olfactory mucosa and purified based on the different rats of attachment among the various cell types. Immunocytochemical method was employed to study the morphological characteristics of OECs. Results OECs with purity of about 75% were harvested by means of purification. Immunocytochemical method revealed that the purified OECs were immunoreactive to P75NGFr. Most were bipolar and tripolar cells with thin and long processus, and the others were flat cells like fried egg. ConclusionOECs can be acquired from human olfactory mucosa, which is an accessible source of tissue for autologous grafting to repair spinal cord injuries.
