Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)in the treatment of thoracic pain due to osteoporosis,myeloma or metastatic malignancy.Methods PVP was performed in 13 patients with 18 diseased vertebrae.Unilateral or bilateral transpedicular approach were performed under C-arm fluoroscopic guidance.A total dosage of 3~7 ml bone cement was injected into each body.Results All patients were followed-up for 3~24 months post-operatively.Back and thoracic pain was alleviated in all patients within 1~3 days(mean 2 days)after the procedure.According to WHO criteria,pain disappeared in 5 cases,significant relieved in 8.Conclusions Percutaneous vertebroplasty is simple,minimally invasive,safe,effective and economical in the treatment of thoracic pain due to osteoporosis,myeloma or metastatic malignancy.
