The thickness of eyelid skin in different people with single-fold and double-fold eyelids

Objective To measure the thickness of eyelid skin,so as to accumulate data for ophthalmosurgery.Methods Palpebral fissures of cadavers were equally divided into four parts by three perpendicular lines.The thickness of eyelid skin along the lines were measured,including skin 3 or 6 mm higher than the upper eyelid margin and skin 2 mm lower than the inferior palpebral margin.The parameters measured above were then classified and analyzed according to single- or double-fold eyelid.Results Compared with those with double-fold eyelid,people with single-fold eyelid have thicker upper eyelid skin.The thickness of lower eyelid skin is thinner than that of upper eyelid skin in all cadavers.Conclusion Thinner upper eyelid skin may help form double-fold eyelid,while thinner lower eyelid skin may be the cause to form eye bags.
