Abstract
Objective To find out factors related to avascular necrosis (AVN) of femoral head after the cannulated screws has been removed. Methods In our department from January 1997 to December 2009, 157 cases of femoral neck fracture were treated with cannulated screws which had been removed later on. All these patients were followed up and analyzed statistically by rank sum test and logistic multiple regression. Results Factors that might have an impact on avascular necrosis of femoral head were: gender, age, fracture type, bone mineral density, and quality of reduction.Conclusions Femoral neck fracture should have anatomic reduction by open reduction when necessary. For patients of Garden Ⅲ and type Ⅳ femoral neck fracture, and decreased bone mineral density caused by various factors (osteoporosis) patients, joint replacement may be a more ideal treatment.
