Abstract

Two main rhymes are applied in American Inaugural Speeches, such as alliteration and ending-rhyme.In the application of alliteration, presidents tend to use plosives and fricatives to enhance the whole speech. While,in the application of ending-rhyme,the presidents prefer to use open vowel with consonance to construct ending-rhyme,in order to promote the music quality and sense of rhythm. The two kinds of rhymes are both used for the sense of rhythm and aesthetic value, and more importantly for the theme of the speech and influencing the audience.
