Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effects of radiofrequency maze procedure in modified pathway for curing atrial fibrillation (Af). Methods: 66 patients of rhematic heart disease associated with Af underwent continuous radiofrequency ablation during open heart operation. The valve replacement was performed at the same time. Results: There was no operative death. Af disappeared in 57 cases postoperatively (sinus rhythm in 54 cases, junctional rhythm in 1, and atrial flutter in 2). Af still existed in 9 cases (13 6%). During the follow up period (2 to 60 months), there were no recurrence and late death. Conclusion: Radiofrequency ablation maze procedure is safe, simple and effective for curing Af.
