Abstract

The Environmental Kuznets Curve(EKC) hypothesis postulates an inverted-U-shaped relationship between different pollutants and per capita income. The number of literatures on EKC has been increasing in recent years to find out the relationship between pollution and economic growth in different countries and the turning point at which the environment begins to improve. However, this theory is just empirically observed, and the universality is not justified.China has a great economic growth and serious pollution problems recently. We used China's data and found that China is in the phase of environment deterioration. No evidence shows the Environmental Kuznets Curve appears in China.Maybe China is in the ascending phase. That means it must use efficient environment policies to coordinate economic growth and environment protection.
