Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of the calcium antagonist amlodipine on left ventricular concentric remodeling in patients with primary hypertension. Methods In a 6 month randomised single blind trial,60 cases of primary hypertension untreated previously received amlodipine(5 mg,Qd).Mmode and Doppler echocardiography were used to observe the efficacy after 6 months. Results The blood pressure control was achieved with amlodipine(P0.01). Left ventricular mass was reduced significantly. Conclusion Amlodipine is effective in reducing left ventricular mass and left ventricular concentric remodeling in previously untreated hypertension patients.
